Our church is twinned with Zwölf Apostel Kirche [Church of the Twelve Apostles] in Frankenthal, Rhineland-Pfalz. The link is one of 14 such partnerships between URC churches in the UK and those in the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate and it celebrated (picture below) its 25th Anniversary in 2013.

The Partnership focuses on exchange visits - usually every 12-18 months - and joint projects. Typically, the visits - sometimes with up to 20+ visitors - include a range of social events, which involve as many members of the churches as possible, not just those who are able to visit in return.
As part of a developing project focus for the Twinning, the two churches recently compiled a joint-Anglo-German hymnbook, featuring a selection of hymns in both English and German, for the two congregations to sing on joint visits and appropriate occasions.

Every other Thursday, 10 am - 12 noon
Ladies Open House has been a feature of the church for a number of years. Originally there was just one group, but when there were too many people to be accommodated comfortably, another group was started. So there are currently 2 groups of ladies who meet, very informally, every other Thursday in each other’s houses for coffee and a chat and to give support to their friends in the group. Occasionally there will be outings and each group goes out to lunch once or twice a year. Now and then the two groups meet together.

Every Thursday 8.00 pm in the Waterman Lounge.
Our Music Group adds to our worship through the ministry of music. The Group, currently 10 strong meets weekly on Thursday evenings to prepare music for worship. Hymns for the following Sunday are practised and items for the next festival services and occasional Sundays in between.

The Music Group is led by the organist and happy to sing unison or harmony. The style of music ranges from works by John Rutter and Herbert Howells, musical cantatas by Roger Jones to arrangements of contemporary songs, helping to bring the best of the newer church music to our worship.
If you have an interest in singing, please speak to any member of the Music Group, or Martin Casey our organist.
Martin can also be contacted via

A warm welcome awaits all parents and carers at our very friendly Toddler Group where the adults can relax, chat and have a cuppa while the children play and learn to socialise.
We meet in our large hall where there is plenty of room for the children to ride their tricycles etc., while a carpeted area of the room is safer for the younger children to play. In the summer we are lucky to have the use of our outside, secure, grassed area. Please come along; we’d love to meet you.

“The ladies who run it are lovely and very welcoming... Everyone is very friendly and I really recommend it”
“This group is really friendly and you can relax and enjoy”
"What an oasis this place is! I look forward to Wednesday afternoons. There are several friendly helpers, lots of different activities and some lovely children and mums (also dads and grandparents) who make this group the best of its type in the area."
"Everyone is very friendly and I really recommend it."

The Yarn with Yarn Charity Craft Group meets alternate Wednesday mornings (10–12noon, and not in an ‘Open House’ week).
The group started in 2014 as a group of people from the church and beyond who are interested in doing something practical for charity using yarn in any way, usually knitting.  Articles knitted include premature baby-sized items (that went to King’s College Hospital London), Prayer shawls, hats and neck warmers (for the Sailors’ Society).  We have sent about 670 items to charity in our first 18 months. All knitters are welcome – men included!
